Top Tips for Hiring a Nursing Home Lawyer

May 18, 2022 by Brandon McGee

Are you in the process of seeking the advice of a nursing home lawyer? Do you need to hire this type of legal professional to help with a serious situation? If so, you don’t want to make just any decision. Instead, you need to get the right attorney on your side.

With so many nursing home lawyers to choose from, it can be difficult to find the person that best suits your situation. Fortunately, when you know which steps to take, it won’t be long before the right legal professional is answering your questions and helping you through a difficult time in your life.

Five Steps to Take

If the time comes to hire a nursing home lawyer, regardless of the reason, you need to do so with success. The process you follow may not be the same as the next person, but it’s safe to assume there are some basic steps that everybody can take.

Here are five of the best:

  1. Decide why you are hiring a nursing home lawyer. For example, you may be hiring an attorney because a loved one was mistreated in a nursing home family. Another person, however, may need legal help to assist with Medicaid planning.

It doesn’t matter why you are seeking the assistance of a nursing home lawyer, as long as you have a clear idea of the reason.

  1. Compare your options. Since there are many nursing home lawyers to consider, you should feel free to compare your options. Believe it or not, law firms want you do to this. And here is why: they care about your well being, and believe that this is the best way to eventually settle on the right person.
  2. Use the internet. There used to be a time when the only way to hire a nursing home lawyer was to make several phone calls. These days are long gone, as you can now find the right person by using the internet to your advantage.
  3. Be patient. Although you may be in a hurry to hire a nursing home lawyer, it doesn’t mean you should rush through the process. If you do, you could soon find yourself choosing somebody who doesn’t match your every want and need.
  4. Ask questions. Above all else, make sure you ask questions before settling on a final decision. This gives you the opportunity to learn more about a particular attorney. Some of the questions you can ask include:
  • How much experience do you have helping people in my position?
  • What do you need from me in order to get started?
  • How much experience and knowledge do you have of elder law?

These basic questions can help you better learn what an attorney can do for you.

Make a Decision

Once you take these steps, among others, you are in a position to make an informed and confident decision. This isn’t to say that you want to hire an attorney, but you realize it is something you probably have to do.

It can be hard to make a final decision, but upon doing so you will feel much better about what the future will bring. You know that you now have somebody on your side who can keep you safe.

Do you still have questions? Are you wondering if you really need to hire a lawyer? We are available to help. When you contact us online or via phone, it won’t be long before you have a firm grasp of your situation.

It’s hard to imagine dealing with serious elder law concerns on your own. Rather than do this, reach out to us in the near future. We can take over and help you reach all your goals, regardless of your situation.

Client Review
May 25, 2021

Brandon McGee is knowledgeable, experienced and professional regarding Estate Planning. The entire process of multiple meetings to establish our input, draft and sign documents and fund the Trust were well organized and clearly explained. At completion, we were presented with a very well organized binder with the documents (both paper and electronic) and lists for future action.  In short, we find Brandon McGee and his staff to be competent, professional and friendly. ~ Brian C.
